Hello again Sibnova here. So last episode of 2Lazy I wasn’t around and was at a convention one of only 2 conventions I go to a year, not due to the fact that I can’t afford it, but because there are very few conventions in Australia. I’m pretty sure if I had the choice I would be at an anime convention every single weekend if I could be.

Anyway while I was at the convention I presented two panels and this is one of them I hope you enjoy and yes I know the audio is only about a 7/10 but the camera was actually on the other side of the room from me so I’m pretty happy with how it tuned out.

So for the longest time my author’s blog looked well… a little neglected and the theme might as well have been default.  Since then the book has come out and I have actually had a lot to say about how things have been progressing.  Now that I actually have something to say that I feel might actually be of interest, I would like you guys to know that I am pretty active on there and will have pretty consistant updates on my writing and the promotional nonsense that I am trying to do to find some traction in the bloated self publishing market.

I have been taking advice from some pretty knowledgeable people and I have no interest in reinventing the wheel when it comes to a marketing campaign so if you have any expertise in that area please let me know.

Also if you haven’t seen I will be giving my book away for free this weekend starting tomorrow Wed, March 14th-19th.  This is a built in promotional tool in the Kindle Select Program and I am finally taking an interest in it.  If you haven’t already purchased the book please grab it for free and tell me what you think.

That’s right I’m talking about anime figures, I went on a binge that I plan not to do during any 2 monh period during this new year

Anywho since I bought so many figures I thought I’d share what I purchased. I’ll start with 2 that i have already blogged about before, Ryomou Shimei by Orchid Seed and Choun Shiryu By Alter

Now to be perfectly honest I don’t remember whih order I purchased the rest of the figures in so rest are going to be presented in random order. I’ll start with Mikuru Asahina from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, figure by Wave Corporation.

This figure came with a variety of items like 4 different signs

and my favorite Mikuru with Ak-47 assault rifle

Alright to save myself some time the remainder of the figures I purchased were all maufactured by Wave Corporation.

Given I am going to be on a flight to Texas in a couple hours I will have to keep this brief.   Since it seems that my parents have retreated back into the dark ages and don’t have reliable internet access,  and it’s been rather difficult to get the gang all together, not to mention the fact that no one has had the time to watch much in the way of something to review due to the busy nature of the holiday season, we are opting to not do a new recording til after the first of the year.  So if you need a podcast to drown the voices out of your loved ones and family members sorry.  That’s what Team speak a laptop and your favorite MMORPG is for.  I tend to bring a lot of audio books with me to Texas for much the same purpose.  So a Merry Bloody Christmas everyone and may the three spirits of Christmas go impale themselves on Waznotta’s loins.

In reviews Roundpeg again talks enough about Shuffle! that it counts as a review, then he gets on to the real review, Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple. Skyeline jumps in late, to give us a review (I guess) of Slayers Revolution, which is apparently reskinned Slayers. Afterwards we discuss what’s been going on with ourselves the past couple weeks. We find out we got a reason to be totally jealous of Skyeline. Then we wrap things up.

In this interview there was a rat hole explored where Noah asked the question and I am paraphrasing “Where is the market coming from in America?”.  I haven’t done any research as to why it exists but the joking response is that it was something people jerk off too.  While I don’t disagree that there are some that do in fact yank it madly anytime they see a goth loli girls skirt fly up, I myself don’t fall into that camp.

I would say Moe for me is something that show cases lost innocence that we can’t see in our every day lives.  In America due to the advent of the information age and the current politically correct climate, you have all kinds of walks of life thrown into your face.  The end result is that children are exposed to far more sophisticated ideas and ideals at increasingly younger ages.    Nowadays there isn’t a case of pure innocence left at least around these kids hit puberty.  When you hear a episode of Loveline and your hearing a twelve year old girl asking about potential physically harming effects of double penetration it’s a pretty good indicator that the only case of Innocence left is just a thinly veiled cloak over willful ignorance.  By this I mean the only way to remain innocent is to be a shut in or really thickheaded, neither of which I would say is a case of pure innocence.

I would say that in some way people either yearn for their childhood lost or the childhood never allowed.  The fact that it is sexualized isn’t too surprising.  Every male on earth feels like he was promised a virgin sometime in his life whether he will admit it or not.  In America Virginity is practically a myth beyond age 14.  I would argue the nerd crowd was probably the late bloomers so they had no shot in hell at 14 and therefore never got their virgin and Moe is the virgin that was promised to them no matter how guilty it makes them feel.

As for me, Moe to me (Air, Kanon, Clannad being the examples) represent a throwback to a simpler time when friendship is simple and everything is exciting no matter how stupid.  Things no matter how trivial over the longhaul truly mean something to this crowd.  I myself have been dealing with a visual impairment most of my life (since I was 6) and I felt like permanent consequence crashed down around me far too young.  Moe is a way to recapture some of that youth and lessen the cynicism for just a little while.

Moe as a general doesn’t bother me and I have enjoyed quite a few of the programs although I would agree it’s been overdone and maybe not so many titles should be making their way across the sea.  For example, STRIKE WITCHES!!  This show goes a little beyond Moe into something rather deviant.  It’s Japan and maybe they can dig on that stuff but I don’t like being pandered too quite so blatantly.  It was even kind of a disappointment to me to find out that the original visual novels for the Key animation stuff had hentai material in them.  I prefer my moe character driven and not my characters driven into the headboard at the end of their arc.  Just me,  Maybe there are some that need to know what every character in their favorite show looks like naked, but if it’s done just for the sake of doing it I find it kind of annoying.  Could I at least get a little more subtle pandering so I don’t feel like the animators not handing me a baby wipe while throwing me a thumbs up.  That’s all I ask.

I’m out I doubt this would answer Noah’s question properly but I thought with the recent show with me and Misugi throwing ideas back and forth this might be appropriate.

This week it’s just Roundpeg Slunker and Skyeline. In news we talk about popular characters, aniplex selling gurren lagann on it’s own rather then license it, bandai licensing the haruhi movie, crunchyroll streaming haruhi, neet’s stealing electricity, and the JSDF trying to harness the power of moe to recruit more troops, amongst other silly things. 

In reviews Slunker takes a pass on reviewing anything this time, not having finished the show he started. However Skyeline, although not having any time to have watched anything, reviews Hunter X Hunter, which he saw recently when he still had freetime. And to finish things off Roundpeg reviews Sword of the Stranger. After that Slunker explains what the heck happened over the past couple weeks that ended up throwing the podcast of schedule. I assure though things will be back to the normal schedule.

So in case you couldn’t tell this post is all about me. For those of you who do not wish to be traumatized (read: bored) then you can stop here. I will give you fair warning that the remaining subject matter contained within this post may get somewhat deep. For those of you actually interested (or who have absolutely nothing better to do with their time) feel free to keep reading.

For those who haven’t paid attention to our show much (ok I know it doesn’t get said often) my real first name is Ed (actually Edward) and no my last name is not Elric (I’m not that short). My real last name shall remain my dirty little secret. Can’t be too careful, I mean a potential employer might go looking me up some day and god knows I’d be embarrassed to be associated with this lot (stares at Duma, Roundpeg and Slunker). I am 27 years old, will be 28 in 1 month and 3 days (for those 2 lazy 2 do math that’s May 9). I am currently working on a double major at the University of Toledo. What are they you ask? Education with a focus on Language Arts (or in less fancy language Teaching English) and Arts and Sciences with a focus on general writing. What is general writing, why I write all about famous war heroes…. Ok that was lame even for me. General writing is just what it sounds like, a degree in various forms and techniques used for writing… ACK!!! I dropped my beef jerky while typing this hold on…….mmm nom nom. Ok where was I (yes I am actually eating beef jerky while typing, spicy teriyaki if you must know).

After highschool (I graduated in 2000) I spent 2 years as a software programmer for a company that eventually went belly up. Then I spent a year out of work and then worked for 7 years for a wireless phone company doing technical support. Somewhere along those 7 years I decided I had thoroughly had it in putting up with the sheer idiocy of customers (anyone who has worked phone support should know what I mean) and started looking for a new job. Almost everything I was looking at and interested in wanted a degree or certification of some kind. So I decided to bite the bullet as they say and enrolled in college (for the second time, I went for 1 year as an IT major and just couldn’t stick with it). Amidst all that I moved out and back home twice (yes I still live with my parents, laugh it up if ya want, but I count myself lucky). I quit my job at the end of last year so I could focus on going to school full time and somewhere in all of that mess I hooked up with the other three hosts of this show and started recording a podcast.

As far as genres of Anime and anything in general for that matter, I like Sci-Fi and Fantasy the most, quirky funny Anime, slice of life, the downright weird, and the occasional horror themed show. What is my favorite Anime of all time? I really haven’t settled on that question. There are a lot that I like, Slayers, Last Exile, Tri-Gun, Cowboy Bebop, the list goes on but you get the idea. I really enjoy reading (I should hope my choice of major makes that somewhat obvious) and have a penchant for making lame puns and jokes (if you didn’t know this already you clearly haven’t been listening to our show). But is all this really who I am?

This post does tell you a lot about me, but I think just like anyone this is all just the surface of what makes me me. I mean I could go on to tell you I’m slightly fluent in German and American Sign Language (by slightly fluent I mean I know enough that I could get by in a conversation if I had to) although I’d say I’m much more proficient in the latter than the former (sign language for those who get confused by that turn of phrase), but before I get to far off track what does my knowing Sign Language really tell you about me? You might think I am interested in learning about how deaf people communicate. Or about communication in general, and you would be somewhat right on both counts. In reality I enjoy studying the human condition through all forms of media and study be it language, books, movies, TV, Anime or whatever else comes my way. I like to study what makes people who they are, and Language is an intrinsic part of what shapes who we are and how we think. Language is closely intertwined with culture and all those other things that make us tic and teach us about the world around us, and so it is that I have an intense interest in the study of language and its history. But even that is just scratching the surface of Me. In all honesty I think I don’t have enough space to write everything I would need to to be able to give you the complete picture, but at the very least I can sketch a portrait in a somewhat short post

Once again we are one host short. This time it’s Skyeline who is absent. However we march forward in usual fahion discussing various bits of news. This week has nothing to do with cats. We talk Astro Boy’s opening weekend numbers, the upcoming Halo Legends dub by Seraphim Studios (formerly ADV), speculate on the haruhi movie, and speculate even more on CODA’s abaility to combat piracy on the web. For reviews we discuss at length Blood The Last Vampire ( the animated one from 2000) and we find that after 2 tries Duma still dislikes this one, after that is done Roundpeg offers us the option of either a Gurren Lagann review or a Kaze no Stigma review. We choose the latter, and I’m somehow left thinking maybe I should have voted for Gurren Lagann. That aside it’s back to the normal format of show. News followed by reviews. Thank you for listening.

Okay this week we got no news. That was all last week’s show. This week we’re reviewing stuff! To start things off Duma tells us what he thinks of the movie Black Jack, afterwards Skyeline tells us about Kampfer,  Afterwards we get a review of Old Boy by Roundpeg to finish off the first half of this podcast. In the second half we having Duma informing us he is watching the 80′s Astro Boy in preparation for watching the CG Astro Boy film that has recently released. Then we get a first look at Sacred Blacksmith from Skyline, and uhm… I can’t find the name of the other show he reviews, it has something to do with cats. Slunker offers up a review of Eureka Seven, now that he has finally finihed the series. To bring it all to a close Roundpeg reviews Fate/Stay Nite, leaving us with the opinion that it’s neither bad nor good, Just somewhere in the middle.

This time we mourn the passing of the creator of Shin Chan, Yoshito Usui. We also discuss other news like, the end of Clamp’s Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, the amount of money Ponyo has made since it released, how much money it would have cost if the script writer didn’t rewrite the proposed live action cowboy bebop, how much money a manga creator can make in a day, and how much money a yaoi publisher might not make if their founder is being charged with drug related crimes. A lot about money in the news this week, as well as Kenshin manga being printed in English (that’s gonna make some money), and the last Inu Yasha TV series (that’s gonna make some money too!). In reviews, Duma tells how he learned a bit about Japanese culture from Mega Man Once Upon a Star, Skyeline cites one example of an anime failing the one episode test in Airmaster, and another example of one passing the test, which is Darker then Black, which coincidentally is also what Roundpeg reviews  for us. And to finish things off Slunker over-compensates for last episode’s non-reviews by giving more proper reviews of the classic film Macross Do You Remember Love, and the latest series in the Macross franchise, Macross Frontier.

It’s the 14th episode. In the news we discuss ways to show your fandom (bad ways to show your fandom I mean), and how the chinese goverment will copy , and then slightly modify your stuff,  after that we mention that although blue ray sales are up in japan (mostly due to anime) video sales are still going down, also we talk about the gundam statue being dismantled, and the gigantor statue being erected (not in it’s place but in Kobe) and we make mention of Naruto Shippuden finding it’s ways on American TV next month. In reviews it seems Duma likes anime that other people think sucks as he reviews Sword for Truth. Skyeline simply aggrees with roundpeg that Mushishi is indeed awesome, then gives us an abridged version (otherwise his shorter and not nearly as detailed review) of Chrono Crusade. Slunker does a rather half assed, and rather non commital blurb regarding the new episodes of Haruhi, then speaks very vaguely about Genshiken. To finish things out Roundpeg gives us the skinny on the show Baccano!

This week i watched Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles on Hulu.com Now i am a huge fan of the old Robotech series. The 3rd war was my favorite. This movie is based about 2 episodes before the end of the 3rd war. It changed the ending of the war little bit and added new villain. Over all i liked it but i feel that it could have been done better. I did not like the CG i wish they stuck  to the old style of animation. I’ll discuss this more on the next podcast.

I have been watching a ton of anime of late here.  Most of these I have reviewed on the cast so check them out to hear my reactions.  I am currently viewing “Ah my Buddah” thinking it would have the same lighthearted slapstick humor .  To a degree I think that’s the case but with a far more fan service centered appeal.  I haven’t seen the original Japanease release but it does look like there has been some additions to obscure nidity just enough so that it’s not completely evil.  I think there is a scale of teasing nudity that is kind of unwritten to me.  It goes from surprise fan service with a token hot spring or beach episode and get to “Let’s see how many explicit but not quite obscene pictures can we cram into 22 minutes.  I myself prefer the former rather than the latter.  This show is kind of irritating and it’s pndering so bad to the fan service crowd that it’s almost insulting.  The show is completely episodic and could be viewed pretty much anywhere in the series and it wouldn’t detract from anything and if you never watch it you would probably be better off.  In any case,  I also am trying desperately trying to find something to finnish for the next episode and I have plenty of things to choose from so hopefully I can nail down what else I am going to see.  Anyways that’s my update for this time.  Hope you like the new episode.

In this episode we talk about upcoming multilingual anime and manga releases, namely Gundam Unicorn, and Rin Me. The construction of a life size mobile suit, anime work out video, and live action anime based movies in the future. So the spring semester at The University of Toledo has finally ended and I am taking a well deserved break. Doing what you ask? Catching up on playing a game that I’ve been wanting to play for awhile, Mana Khemia. It’s a JRPG by Gust in Japan, and released under NIS America, the same people that brought the popular Disgaia series to the USA. It follows the system set down in the somewhat popular Atelier Iris series of RPG’s and is about a group of students learning Alchemy at the prestegious Al Revis Academy. So yeah, I finished a semester of school only to start playing a JRPG where the main character is going to school, silly I know. So far I’m ejoying it, but I must add that I’m glad they included the option to have Japanese voice overs. It’s not that the US voice actors in this one stink. NIS has kept up with their tradition of hiring good voice actors. The problem is the US voice over gips players because it, at least so far, has about 50% less spoken lines than the US voice over. Just for example with the Japanese voice overs all of the shop keepers, very minor characters in the grand scheme of things, get a voice over for their greeting and for when you leave the shop.

As for Anime I’ve been watching a few different series. I’ve been keeping up on the ongoing popular series Naruto Shipuuden and Bleach, meh I’m sure I don’t need to comment on a show that at least 90% of the US Anime watching population is keeping up with. Aside from this I’ve been watching K-On, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Senjou no Valkyria, and another old favorite of mine, the comedy Tsukikage Ran.

For those that might not be familiar with this title, it follows the travels of a wandering female samurai by the name of Ran. She has a love of sake and is followed by the Lady Meow of the Cat Fist style. The series is hilarious and will more than likely be included in our next episode for my review.

This time our heros talk about more streaming anime, ero-manga theft, academic otaku literature, and so on in the news. Skyeline gives us a breif, but informative descriptions on K-on, 07 Ghost, Basquash!, and Saki, Slunker rambles on about Tora Dora, Duma finishes watching Hellsing, and Roundpeg praises Yukikaze, warns people away from Majikano, and relates to us the soul-crushing experience that is Lucky Star (warning no actual souls were crushed during the recording of this podcast). Okay so perhaps Roundpeg’s soul was not crushed by watching Lucky Star. However I can’t find the words to describe the effect watching the show had on him. Is this a good thing? Is it a bad thing? You’ll have to listen and judge for yourself.

I’ll be discussing this on the next podcast so I’ll keep this brief. I will say though I’ve enjoyed it so much I’ll be watching it again this coming week, and will keep an eye out for any news regarding any licensing for the show I hope this gets a U.S. release, anyways I’ll be talking about this on the next podcast hopefully we’ll have it out in the next coming week.

So for these last few weeks I’ve been assuaging my anime needs by watching Dennou Coil, and an old favorite of mine, Tsubasa Chronicle. Both series are very interesting, especially the new to me Dennou Coil. The style of the show really grabbed me with its art which reminds me very much of Hayao Miyazaki’s work. That and the mystery that the show presents as well as with the intriguing virtual world really drew me in from the start. I should have a fairly decent review ready for the next release.

Haven’t watch any anime so far this week. Closest thing to anime I have watched was Resident Evil Degeneration. Anyways, after watching this film my overall opinion is it’s forgettable if you’re not a fan of the game series. Personally I’ve only played the first 3 games in the series, so at best I was mildly interested. That being said, I will say I found the story to be good, and fitting considering this is based on the games. However I did find the overall quality of the film leaving something to be desired. Perhaps I am biased having seen Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children, and also recently saw Appleseed Ex Machina, I guess I could say my expectations for an action oriented CG film might be demanding. The overall quality seemed inconsistent. At somepoints the characters looked great, and other times they didn’t look any better then they might have in an in game Cg cut scene. The voice acting was passable, but after playing the first Resident Evil, I wonder if I should keep the bar for voice acting quality low. Perhaps the voice over work improved in recent games, but that would require me to actually play the games to make any judgement on that. Overall, if you’re one of those people who don’t take your fandom, or entertainment too seriously Resident Evil Degeneration is entertaining enough to be worth renting at best.

Warning this podcast contains mature themes and language listener discretion is advsed podcast 2lazy yes no http://www.2lazy2botaku.com/archives/65 http://www.2lazy2botaku.com/archives/65#comments Fri, 27 Mar 2009 02:11:42 +0000 roundpeg http://2lazy2botaku.com/?p=65 Continue reading →]]> Hey guys I got a lot of anime watching done this week and I am not quite sure which one I am going to review.  I finnished off Tenchi Muyo, Eureka Seven, Aquarion, Origin, and the Air Movie.  This all comes despite my very busy work schedule that didn’t seem to end this last couple weeks.  I spent last week with company over for the most part upstairs banging around and keeping me from sleeping.  Meanwhile I have been sick with a cold.  I spent last night sitting in a H&R Block trying to get my taxes done.  I had an appointment set for 7:30.  My account lady was with someone so I sat and waited for an hour and a half and they finally told me to come back another time.  I was so pissed I just left so I wouldn’t scream at them.  I also have a sick friend in the hospital that I haven’t been able to see since I have been sick so much.  With that all being said I think I will review Tenchi Muyo here as opposed to on the podcast.

Tenchi Muyo:

Overall rating: Just like March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb.

I was down right pleaded with by many individuals to watch this anime.  I think a lot that Tenchi has going for it is the fact that it was the first of it’s kind that a lot of people saw.  It kind of falls in the Dragonball Z/ Cowboy Bebop range.  That being said, as a person who has watched many anime series now and is kind of looking back at Tenchi Muyo I gotta say it does hold up pretty well.  I did notice that the first half of the series was a tad more interesting than the last half.  There towards the end it turned into more of a hereim show.  Both aspects have merit but I think I would have enjoyed it more had I seen what they started with go all the way to the end and then they could do the whole hereim crap with the other series that they have spawned afterwards.  I did like the characters and generally enjoyed it.  I think for me personally I avoided watching this series because I knew it wouldn’t live up to the hype that people had put on it for me.  There are some series you can do that with and some you just can’t.  I think we as anime viewers need to work on being a hair more subtle when recommending shows for others to watch.  It’s always best to take into consideration who your talking to first.  I have a friend who could care less about anime but I at least was able to get him to watch Hellsing and Beserk just because of the adult violence.  I think if you keep this stuff in mind you’ll find that you’ll get people sucked in a lot easierthan if you start them off with something like a Neon Genesis Evangelion for which they may never talk to you again until you apoligize.  Anyways I think I might review Air the moie or Aquarion this week I haven’t decided yet.  I also actually purchased the Box sets of Yukikazee and preordered the Shuffle thin pack.  I know that might make some of you roll your eyes but one of these days I will give you a full review of Shuffle.  Podcast should record on Friday whether or not anyone else got some anime watching done cause I think I could do a review show all on my own.  See you guys then.

Luckily for us Roundpeg did watch something worth reviewing this week, he talks about Shingetsutan Tsukihime (pictured above), and contributing to the show as well was Skyline with a review of Grenadier

Little bit of an update here.  I did in fact get Darker than Black Vol 3 and Aquarion season1 part2 disc1.  I am about up to date with Aquarion and I would say it’s a standard giant robo but I wouldn’t say that is very fair.  I will put out a full review as I continue to get the final discs that are coming out.  I have gotten some other series and will attempt to get them finnished before the next show that I hope will appear before our next taping.  Slunker has felt a little under the gun which isn’t very fair to him so when he finnishes it will come out and I will do my best not to preasure him.  I will try to calm down doing my research on web building long enough to finnish a few series since it’s already beginning to be a problem to get some of the folks on the show to get some anime watching done.  Doing a weekly swhow might be a tad ambitious so I wouldn’t be surprised if we switch to a biweekly show just so we can get some of these long running series watched on time for the recording.  We all love anime but we are all gainfully employed so time constraints can be kind of steep to get a 24 hour series watched in the span of 7 days.  I have been able to keep up since I don’t much in the American vein.  I only watch a few regular shows and usually that is when they hit hulu.  I sit over here with cable and I barely use it.  Anywho.  Hopefully you guys will like the show and that there will be enough people who can even find the show.  Hit us with some feedback and give us your ideas for the sho9w.  Thanks

Yeah I will be watching again,  Mahoromatic one of my favorite animes that I have not watched in some time but will again.
